News from the NCI Public Affairs and Marketing Network Meet the new Steering Committee Members The National Cancer Institute Public Affairs and Marketing Network (PAN), a cooperative association of communications professionals working at National Cancer Institute-designated organizations, elected five members to its steering committee. The election results were formally announced at PAN’s 2009 annual meeting, which was held April 25-28 at the University of Pennsylvania’s Abramson Cancer Center in Philadelphia. Dana-Farber Cancer Institute Contact the Steering Committee members “The new steering committee members bring vast experience to the PAN leadership,” said Kevin Koga, chair of the organization’s steering committee and vice president for communications, City of Hope in Duarte, Calif. “Their efforts will help create greater awareness and support for cancer research throughout the nation.”
Together with the National Association of Cancer Center Development Officers (NACCDO), PAN holds an annual meeting to discuss issues affecting development and communications officers at the nation's cancer centers. The annual meetings draw up to 300 public affairs, marketing, and fundraising professionals each year, where topics range from best practices in fundraising, media relations and marketing to hot topics in cancer research. The 2010 PAN and NACCDO meeting will be held April 29-May 2 in Tampa, Fla., hosted by the H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center and Research Institute. Other members of the PAN steering and planning committee for 2009-10 are: Jill Boy, director of communications, Duke Comprehensive Cancer Center; Michelle Foley, manager, community relations and public affairs, H.
