On October 14, the swim teams from Lockport and Starpoint high schools united for a great cause: raising funds for Roswell Park Cancer Institute. Together, the teams raised nearly $1500! Members of the soccer team at St. Francis High School recently donated $400 to Team Cure at Roswell Park. The team raised money by selling breast cancer awarness ribbons at a recent game. On September 30, the Boulevard Mall location of Banana Republic hosted a special fall fashion event, featuring an in-store fashion show, special discounts and basket raffles, with all proceeds supporting Team Cure! Many thanks to the generous staff at Banana Republic and everyone who supported the event.
On Friday, August 14, the fifth Annual Nicholas A. Dusenberry Memorial Golf Tournament raised more than $12,000 for melanoma research at Roswell Park. The event, held at the Links at Ivy Ridge in Akron, NY, was established in the memory of Nicholas Dusenberry, a young man who lost his battle with melanoma. This golf tournament has raised more than $60,000 for Roswell Park Cancer Institute since it was established. Many thanks to the Dusenberry family for their ongoing commitment to helping Roswell Park find cures! On August 26, 2009, Fran and Pat Bax, organizers of the Strike Out Breast Cancer Bowling Tournament, presented a check for $1,200 to Roswell Park Cancer Institute for funds raised during their beloved annual event. This year's Strike Out Breast Cancer was held on March 1, 2009 at the Tonawanda Bowling Center and featured raffles, a bowling event featuring some of WNY's top bowlers, bake sales, and more to raise funds for Roswell Park.
On August 22, the Haz Benz Soccer Club raised over $1,100 at their annual classic, held at the Rothland Golf Course in Clarence. Led by organizer Bill Shaflucas, golfers braved wind and rain to raise funds for Roswell Park!
The Green Arch Restaurant and Legion Post 434 in Brocton teamed up for the fourth annual Golfing for Roswell tournament. This year the tournament was expanded to 18 holes and played at Green Meadows Golf Course in North East, PA. One-hundred twenty golfers took part in the sold-out tournament and raised just over $5,000 dollars for research at Roswell Park Cancer Institute.
The banquet following play was held at Post 434 and featured awards and prizes. Congratulations to Dick Furman on his hole-in-one!
The 2009 committee of Al & Cheryl Brumagin, Dan and Pat Thompson, Pete, Sue & Kelly Miller, Jennifer Brumagin, Dave Willebrandt, Matt Brumagin, Cindy Oar and Josh Brumagin would like to thank all the volunteers, patrons, and donors for another successful year. The 2010 tournament will be held on the same weekend.
